At the 2025 World Expo, Japan (Osaka/Kansai Expo), products using ovoveil will be exhibited at the Osaka Pavilion.

At the Pharma Foods Co., Ltd. booth in the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion at the 2025 World Expo, Osaka, Kansai, Japan, which opens on April 13, 2025, a booth experience that stimulates the five senses will be presented, incorporating traditional Kyoto art and featuring “ovoveil®,” a new fiber derived from eggshell membrane.

The theme of the exhibition is “Fibers that are kind to people and the earth.”

Booth exhibition concept: A sensory experience that combines science and art

We believe that the core of our creativity, which generates new value from egg research, lies in combining scientific thinking that uncovers unknown facts about life phenomena with artistic thinking that discovers untapped interpretations, all through a research approach that penetrates the essence. As Albert Einstein once said, “The greatest scientists are also great artists,” science and art have been intrinsically intertwined, supporting the development of civilization and culture.

At the World Expo, which serves as an experimental ground for future societies, we have worked to create a booth experience that resonates with the five senses by merging our expertise in egg science with Kyoto’s traditional arts. In the exhibition booth, visitors are captivated by the beautiful fabric (sight), enjoy its smooth texture (touch), and are immersed in an elegant world through scent (smell) and music (hearing). Furthermore, the visuals depicting the life forms hidden within eggs offer new insights into the egg as a “capsule of life” (perception). Through this booth experience, visitors are drawn into the allure of ovoveil, which has been transformed from eggshell membranes, and captivated by the precious vitality of the egg, which is its origin. Enjoy this elegant exhibition experience, where science and art weave together, through the five senses.

Exhibition Overview and Highlights

On the left side of the booth, you can view a display where ovoveil fabric floats gracefully in the wind, resembling the wings of a celestial being. The patterns of its movement are endless, symbolizing the influence that ovoveil will have on the textile industry and sustainable future societies.

A bench designed to resemble a bird’s nest

On the right side of the booth, you can sit on a bamboo “Yatara-weaving bench” inspired by a bird’s nest, and enjoy the soft texture of ovoveil fabric with egg-shaped cushions and sample garments. It provides a space to rest your legs after strolling through the expansive pavilion, serving as a comfortable and welcoming retreat. In front of you, you will see displays of eggshell membranes and shells, which are the raw materials of ovoveil, offering a deeper understanding of the bio-tech that transforms these underutilized resources into environmentally friendly textiles.

Projecting the growth record of a chick until it is born

The video projected in the center of the booth is a unique recording captured by our company, documenting the growth process of a chick until its birth. Inside the egg, there is life force in both the yolk and the egg white that brings the chick to life. Additionally, the eggshell and eggshell membrane contain intricate mechanisms to protect the chick. We believe that this precious life force and the protective systems within the egg are at the core of our egg research, and serve as a driving force for advancements in life sciences and healthcare technologies.

On the booth’s walls, ten pieces of fabric, each 3 meters in height, are suspended to envelop the entire space. The large fabric gently sways in rhythm with the music, symbolizing the breath of life within the egg. ovoveil is woven into shiny Tango chirimen (crepe) fabric and decorated with Yuzen designs, and the undulating rhythm evokes a soothing heartbeat.

*In the future, a second press release providing a more detailed explanation of the booth experience will be distributed in conjunction with the opening of the Expo. Additionally, the exhibition will be updated seasonally, with changes for spring, summer, and autumn. Please look forward to the changing colors and patterns.

Introduction to the Uniform

Attendant One-Piece Dress – Comment by Yuki Kawabe

The design is inspired by the traditional “Kanze Ryūsuimon” motif, which represents water and has been passed down in Kyoto for centuries. The one-piece dress and the egg-shaped organza covering it represent the egg’s white and yolk, the source of life, as well as the natural, high-performance barrier—the eggshell membrane—that protects it from the outside world.

By applying and implementing the mysterious life force entrusted in the egg to modern society, this design embodies the aspiration of all PharmaFoods employees to harmonize with people, becoming an indispensable company in society, just as water is an essential presence in our daily lives.

Both the one-piece dress and the cardigan worn over it are crafted from ovoveil fabric.

Employee Staff Uniform: To be worn during the first half of the exhibition – Comment by Yuki Kawabe

The design concept, “Irotamago,” was inspired by the essential color beads used in creating the vibrant hues of Kyoto’s 400-year-old Kyo-Yuzen. The concept envisions these beads as vessels of the soul.

The uniforms worn by the employee staff, dressed as art scientists, feature various Irotamago designs that express the mysteries of life. Additionally, the staff members themselves can experience the comfort of ovoveil fabric against their skin.

(Note: As stated in the news release on March 14, 2025, the uniforms worn by the employee staff during the latter half of the Expo will be designed by the fashion brand “divka.”)

ovoveil: “The Fiber of Life”

The eggshell membrane, the raw material for ovoveil, is the “swaddling cloth of life” that protects chicks from UV rays and viruses. Its natural properties are reflected in the excellent texture of ovoveil. With the Expo as an opportunity, we position ovoveil as “the fiber of life” and aim for full-scale expansion into the apparel and fabric industries.

Creating New Value from Egg Research

In the vision for 2050, as envisioned by the Osaka Pavilion, ovoveil, created from the previously underutilized eggshell membrane, will be rooted in daily life and bring about the harmonious progress of humanity with nature. Moving forward, we will continue to create timeless value from egg research, aiming to realize healthcare solutions where people can confidently entrust themselves to a future society in harmony with the environment.
